Managing Emotions
Dear Love and Wisdom Seeker…
These days we all are likely to be experiencing a range of emotions. How do we manage them and stay putting our best self forward?
Here are a few strategies:
First notice and start to sense when you feel a shift within yourself. Stop, take a moment and take a few breaths and then a few more. Can you identify what you’re feeling? Use curiosity about what you’re feeling and maybe notice if some part of your body is responding to the feeling, maybe a knot in your stomach or tightness in your shoulders possibly tension in your jaw? These few steps help get you tapping into your prefrontal cortex, that part of the brain that is our decision-maker, our leveler. Keeping our prefrontal cortex engaged can help us respond in productive and helpful ways under stressful situations. If this intrigues you much more to explore in the book Permission To Feel by Marc Brackett PH.D.
